Our Principles

The RDC development program will be player-centred, with only their interests as its heart.

It will be built on sound development principles especially the Canadian Soccer “National Player Model” and the ground-breaking “Wellness to World Cup” Long Term Player Development (LTPD) Model.

It recognizes the essential truth that both high performance sport and participation are doomed to fail unless each are strong and reinforcing.  istvan_balyi

It will be comprehensive, assisting players of all proficiencies.

It will be age-specific, matching growth and learning stages.

It will seamlessly integrate with provincial and national programs and development pathways.

It recognizes that the best volunteer coaches and the best professional coaches are both critical.

All programs will be accessible.

It will be constantly improved.

Player-Centred Development

LTPD promotes lifelong wellness for all and optimal development for high performance players.

Based on the sports science of Istvan Balyi, becoming used throughout Canadian sports and internationally.

Scientific model for periodized athlete training and development that respects and utilizes the natural stages of physical, mental and emotional growth”.

A long-term strategy and plan:
 - Outline structured development pathway.
 - Age/maturity-appropriate coordinated program.
 - Initial focus on basic skills enhances all players enjoyment to stay in soccer and inspire reaching personal potential.
 - Recognition of soccer as a “late specialization” sport.
 - Avoidance of  formal competition too early (before U13): “long-term process, not short-term results”.
 - Avoidance of conflicts, excess demands on players.

A young team’s success measure is not win/loss; it has been a great season if:
 - All players are enthusiastic to play again.
 - All players have improved their skills over the year.

Richmond’s soccer associations actively encourage the broadest participation in our sport. All players will have full access to our development programs and its opportunities.

Some programs are included in registration; others involve partial user contributions.

No Richmond boy or girl will ever be denied or deterred from any of our soccer activities or programs for financial reasons. Contact your club for  information on support.

Constant Improvement

Richmond’s development centre and its programs will constantly evolve to create new opportunities.

In the summer of 2008, we will be introducing entry level and high performance summer programs and camps.
